This is an interesting problem. A few minutes ago, I tried to color scan-email a document. When I opened the email, the attachment was blank. Thinking that I made a mistake, I resent the document. Again, the attachment was blank.
I turned off the unit and unplugged it for two minutes. Plugged it back in and powered it on. Rescanned the document and it on its way. The attachment was blank yet again.
Out of curiosity, I tried one more time, but this time I called for black & white as opposed to color. When I opened the attachment, the image of the document was there...albeit in b&w as opposed to color. Color copying is perfect. No problems there.
So, something isn't quite right. I have an MF743 at home. I plan on trying a color scan on that unit to see if I can duplicate the problem. The idea is to see if this is a problem unique with the 733, or if it is more than that.
For the record, I haven't tried to color scan to a flash drive as I do not have access to an available drive at this time.
.............Update..........
I tried color scanning the same document at home and it scanned properly. So, this looks like a problem specific to the particular MF733 unit.

Hello,
If you can make color copies the hardware should be working, but it looks like it might be a settings/configuration issue. We would be happy to assist, but we would need some additional information to assist further. You can reply to this message with the information below and we can provide some troubleshooting steps or suggestions. For a more immediate resolution I would suggest contacting support over the phone at 1-800-652-2666. Our agents would be happy to assist.
1. Are you able to scan in color with a Mac or windows computer using the MFscan utility?
2. Are you scanning from the platen glass or is it from the auto document feeder?

I haven't used the utility to scan. I put a physical piece of paper on the platen and use the menu to execute the scan process.
The 733 has been factory defaulted a few times since I created this topic, but I haven't had the need to re-check. If there was an optioning issue a factory default would have cleared it.
At this point, with the 733 two (and if Canon releases something new this year) three model years old, it wouldn't be cost effective to send it out for repair...assuming that this is/was a hardware issue.

Open the MF Scan Utility. Click on the Settings button. Now review your settings on the Computer and Printer tabs. You likely have black and white selected as @Hector mentioned

I just discovered that now I can't Email out on either my 743 or my church's 733.
Both are set for @outlook.com, so it looks like Microsoft made some sort of change.
Will need to iron that out and then return to the first issue.
As the saying goes.... "Never a dull moment!". 😵💫
