Canoscan Lide 400 Installing

I too have purchased a brand new Canon Flatbed scanner Lide 400. The initial install was fine. Even the front buttons worked. And then it stopped working. I have tried several times to reinstall, unplug, replug etc. I have yet to find a solution here from oher users or from Canon as to how to fix the problem. All I have read is "check that it's plugged in", "Try re-installing" and so on as if those haven't been tried before.

If there is an answer, please let me know.
