EOS Webcam Utility 2.2.24 Not working with Sequoia on Mac

I have been a long time user of Canon's webcam utility and the recent Sequoia update broke the camera being able to connect with the software and it no longer shows up in the utility software or any of the web conferencing apps (Zoom, Teams, WebEx, etc.).  I know this is a known issue but the updated software 2.2.24 that was supposed to fix the issue has not resolved the problem.

I have upgraded the Mac (MacBook Pro 16" M3) from webcam utility 2.2.22 to 2.2.24 and it is still showing the same behavior of not connecting.  I have done a complete uninstall of the utility, re-installed a fresh copy and have checked all the system settings to allow the extension and camera in MacOS.  I have also checked and swapped the USB cable with no change.

Looking around on the forums I see some users are having similar issues, any suggestions?

Same issue for me @webcam_user

Hi webcam_user,

At least we know that if the camera is detected by Image Capture that the camera, cable, and USB port look to be working correctly, and I see from your previous follow-up post you've used the settings we would recommend.

Another thing to double check is if your computer is the 16" laptop version is the computer plugged into a power outlet? Sometimes if a laptop isn't plugged into a power outlet it can limit the power supplied to the ports causing communication issues. Different pieces of software can have different power needs, so it can happen where there is enough power for something like Image Capture but not for the EOS Webcam Utility.

We haven't heard any reports about Legacy Device issues with OS15 yet, but there was a setting in OS14 that would need to be enabled to allow full communication. It may be good to double check if there are OS15 settings related to Legacy Devices. On OS14 we would direct people to this article HERE to check that setting, but I don't see an article like that for OS15.

Thanks for the further suggestions.  The MacBook is plugged into a wall outlet so power should not be an issue.  I also went ahead and followed the steps in the link you provided to restore legacy video device support but there was no change in behavior.

I have verified all these steps with no change, still not working.  To be clear, I have been using my 70d for webinars and zoom meetings literally every day for years without issue.  It stopped working and this issue started immediately after updating my Mac to Sequoia, I'm pretty confident it is driver/utility related.

Hi mr_upgr8d,

After replying to webcam_user's response I saw your post. The next things we would recommend you check are the same as what I recommended to webcam_user in my ‎11-08-2024 05:43 PM response.

I am using a Mac Mini M2 currently on macOS Sequoia 15.1.  The USB ports are not the issue, no other attempt has resolved this problem

This link goes to EOS Webcam Utility PRO, that is not free.
Is that what you are trying to sell to us?

The name of the software is EOS Webcam Utility Pro. There is an optional subscription.
Details are at https://canon.us/ewu

I upgraded to 2.3.15 and the problem remains the same.  I also ran the uninstall utility and then did a fresh install but unfortunately still no change.
