t3i screen crashes camera when it tries to turn on

Helo,

 

The problem is that someone dropped the camera and broke the rear screen. The camera still worked, but the wire got ripped out of the cable. I ordered a new back for the camera that was tested and verified working, and I hooked it up which was pretty simple to do. The camera works, but the screen doesnt. Whenever I go into video mode or open the screen is crashes. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

Exactly. Professional photographers have jobs because they are better at what they do than the average camera owner is. The same is true of service technicians. You have not had experience making the repair you attempted, and you probably overlooked something or misconstrued how a particular connection should be made. There's no shame in that; if you'd had the requisite training, you'd probably have done everything right. Or you would know how to test the part to see if there really is something wrong with it. But beyond that, your camera suffered serious damage in the fall. As others have pointed out, other things could be broken or misaligned that wouldn't be obvious. Neither you nor any of us would be able to check the camera out and make sure everything was working right. That's what the Canon service centers are for. They usually aren't cheap, but they do a very professional job. If they say your camera is fixed, it almost certainly is.

I'm confused.  You said it was repaired and "verified working" but then you said the screen doesn't work.  

 

Does the screen work?

 

It sounds like it still needs repairs.

I think OP means the replacement screen was verified working. Sounds like either that verification was incorrect, it was installed incorrectly or there was additional damage in the camera.

Correct. They said it was tested before they shipped. Sorry for the confusion.

Not sure what step to take next in testing or getting the screen to register to the camera.

I think your camera needs professional service.  Further DIY repairs will most likely reach the point of diminishing returns very quickly.

I agree. When a camera falls hard enough to break the screen, there is apt to be additional internal damage that isn't immediately obvious. If you want to continue to use the camera for any serious purpose, you should have it examined professionally - preferably by a Canon service center.

I figured that is the answer I would get. I appreciate the response, but I guess what I am curious about is if the rear casing and screen is paired with a certain camera and if a new back is added will the camera not want to communicate with it? I know some phone parts are like that, so I was curious if the camera may be too.

No, repair parts are repair parts, the problem is that, unlike a phone, there are a lot of precisely mechanically adjusted parts inside (mirror, autofocus chip, shutter, lens...) and a shock that could break the screen could easily mis-align something.
