My flash is not working on my PowerShot SX740 HS camera. My flash does not go off even though I have the flash setting on, instead every time I manually flick up my flash the camera shows “busy” in the bottom left corner of my camera screen. I have tried fully charging the battery, removing and reinserting the battery and SD card, tried different modes that allow for flash to be taken, and nothing is working. Currently, the camera is on the P mode with flash on, where it should use flash for every photo I take. Any advice or tricks to get my flash to work and the busy message to go away??

I also tried resetting the camera and it didn’t work.

Why is the display showing 29:59?
Is the camera in video mode?

I am unsure what 29:59 means but it is not in video mode or recording.

I am almost the camera is in video mode because of the icon in the lower left corner. It a video icon.
Can the camera take a photo without the flash? BTW, the camera may display “BUSY” between flash shots as the flash triggers recharge.

I can assure you it is not in video mode because I can still take pictures in this mode but it doesn’t take the photos with flash. Even though the setting has flash on (not automatic flash but flash on setting).
Additionally, the “busy” has been on continuously and has many chances to recharge to flash (including overnight) but has not gone away nor has the flash worked since it appeared on the screen.

I must apologize because I am not convinced. I see a video mode icon in the corner and a video recording time display at the top, which you have yet to explain.
Furthermore, I don’t see any icon indicating the flash is enabled. As noted above, I see video recording time, instead of an exposure display for capturing stills.
BTW, recharging the the trigger on the flash is not directly related to charging the camera battery. Of course, none of it would work without a charged battery. The flash has its own trigger which the battery recharges between shots.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of my camera in video mode vs. the P mode to take photos. Like I said, it is not in video mode and it is in the picture taking mode on with flash on. The flash doesn’t work as it just says busy.
I am still unable to take flash photos with the flash setting marked as on.

Your flash must not be charging. Try a newer battery. That “BUSY” most likely means the flash is charging or you have a bad memory card.
If you disable the flash and the message goes away, then that’s a bad sign. If it returns when you raise the flash, then that’s a sign of a bad flash trigger.
