I got this camera recently from someone and tried to format it with the card I bought but it won't work. I don't know if it is too large or some other reasoning. Another problem I've had is it needs to be updated because the firmware version it's at right now is 1.0.3 so I decided follow tutorials. However, I was looking on the official canon website and there wasn't any firmware updates to download. I'm just lost on what to do

1. Your camera supports SD ( max 2GB) and SDHC (max 32GB). Not SDXC (max 2TB). Buy a 32GB card or less.
2. It is critical to update your firmware if you don't have 1.0.6 or 1.0.7 installed due to a bug, see this thread.
If the firmware can't be found at Canon you can try Eoscard that has a collection of firmware updates. Is it safe to download? Well, I have generated sha256 checksums for Canon firmware updates, see https://kameratrollet.se/use-sha256-checksum-to-verify-canon-firmware-updates/
If another file downloaded from another source have the same checksum, it is the same file and not corrupted.
And for 1000D/XS 1.0.7 at Eoscard, its checksum matches my 1.0.7 that I have downloaded from Canon.
