help! EOS 80D menu, info [etc] buttons will not function

photos4fun

I have an EOS 80D that will 'take a picture' and flash [I have tried all of the dial options, from Manual to auto]. The problem is I cannot get any of the Menu, info or other function buttons to work. I am unable to view the photos being taken.
This happened after a road trip home from vacation. The camera was in the case, but may have been left on? I tried the 'manual reset' by removing the card and battery and holding down the shutter button for 10 secs...no luck.

Any info/help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum:

At the risk of asking a silly question, have you tried tapping the INFO button a couple of times?  One of the modes for that is a black screen.

cheers, TREVOR

The mark of good photographer is less what they hold in their hand, it's more what they hold in their head;
"All the variety, all the charm, all the beauty of life is made up of light and shadow", Leo Tolstoy;
"Skill in photography is acquired by practice and not by purchase" Percy W. Harris

sorry if I was not clear about what my 'issue' is. The INFO button, the MENU button, etc - will not function. I press it but get no response.

Thanks

photos4fun,

Is it possible that you accidentally hit your function lock button?

Steve Thomas

if it's the slide button on the bottom right, no - that is not locked.

if it's something else [the function lock], maybe??

photos4fun,

No, I only know about the multi function lock, and if it were engaged, the camera would tell you.

Greetings,

Power off the camera.  Remove the card, lens and battery. Install the body cap.  Insert a freshly charged, (Canon brand battery) of known good quality. Power on the camera.  Use the mode dial and select M, P, TV or Av mode.  Now try pressing the menu button.

If successful, reset the camera's main and custom settings.

If this doesn't work, your camera will require service.  Putting the camera in a bag powered on but sleeping will not damage the camera.  It's not something I do however.  We cannot speculate what happened or why. Please report the results and we'll help with next steps if needed.

I tried what you mentioned above and unfortunately it did not work.

I had previously tried something I found under a different thread [not mine] and it noted to hold down the shutter button for several seconds. That seemed to work, but now how do I reset the camera's main and custom settings?

Thanks for your help!
