EOS Rebel G Shutter Button not Working

I recently found this camera in my house and wanted to start trying it out. Batteries are working and all other settings work, including changing modes, shutter speeds, and everything else. The camera is in great condition with no damage.

However, when trying to take a picture the autofocus isn't working nor is the camera actually taking a picture, and the shutter is not working. I'm pressing halfway to autofocus and fully to take the picture, but nothing is happening. The camera has film loaded (5 pictures left), and I've tried a whole bunch of settings.

I was wondering if anyone had any insight into working with a film camera and trying to get the shutter to work.

Greetings,

Afraid I can offer little help.  Since this camera is 30 years old, any investment beyond cursory inspection, time, or money is a losing proposition.  It's time for a new camera whether you go film or digital.
