The viewfinder does not light on ( spot metering focusing point) and how could you activate them.

There are three Canon 5D cameras (the original, the mk II and the mk III). I have the 5D mk II and on that version, you turn AutoFocus points on or off in the viewfinder through the "Playback" menu 2 (fourth menu icon from the left - blue with two dots), second selection: AF point disp. >>> Enable or Disable.

Canon has free downloadable owner's manuals on-line if you don't have a hard copy or have the original or mk III.

If you are using AI SERVO af mode then the AF points don't light up either...
