I recently completed a repair and cleaning for a lens and body, and the process was quick and easy. However, when following the recommended shipping instructions using the 'Canon Discount' for shipping through UPS, I was charged ~$140 for shipping a lens and camera body for service. Is this normal?
The breakdown was around $25 for the shipping, and around $115 for declared value insurance of $2500. This is far above the standard declared value rate of $2.10 per $100 value over $100, which would have been a roughly $50 declared value charge.
Just bringing this to light in case something was amiss about my shipment - I did check the receipt and the declared value was claimed for the right amount. Do the rest of you just not buy insurance when shipping items for service? Or ship with a different method?

I've never shipped to Canon, but I know UPS is very expensive for regular people that don't have contracts, I would think Canon would get a much better rate that that. I prefer shipping though USPS, even though that has also increased a lot over that last couple of years.

Seema a little high. I didn't use the Canon link, but shipped a 1D X Mark III and a 100-400 Mk II (I forget what value I used, but probably $5000) and total was $108 at the UPS Store.
