Hi all. I would like to ask something about switching between photo and video then back to photo.
Is it possible to map to the record red button a custom video settings including the picture profile (e.g: c-log) so that when I am in photo mode and press record I start recording immediately with the settings previously setup somewhere?
Additionally, if this is possible, then I would like to know if the picture profile (c-log, etc) is independent from the picture style (standard, neutral, etc) in photo mode - essentially if they are independent from each other? So each one will have its own individual picture/profile style? Then finally, if all of this is true, which cameras do this?
Thanks a lot in advance.

When you are in still mode, and press the movie record button - the one with the red dot - then EOS R3, EOS R5 switch to movie mode with the C3 custom mode. These cameras have separate custom modes for still and video shooting, so there is C1, C2, C3 for photo, and C1, C2, C3 for movie. The other cameras with this kind of operation are EOS R, EOS R5 Mark II and EOS R1 (not 100% sure about this one).
What this means is you can switch the camera to movie shooting, setup the C3 custom shooting mode with the settings you need C-log included. Then switch back to photo mode. Now when you press the movie button the camera switches to C3 (movie) and starts recording using the settings you chose.
The other cameras like EOS R8 & EOS R6 Mark II do not do this, and you cannot choose C-log for the movies recorded when the movie button is pressed while the camera is in still mode. But if you switch to movie mode from still mode using the switch on the camera then you have C-log available.

Yes really for video, but in photo mode there is no C-log only Picture styles and RAW or JPG/HEIFF.
Canon menus and options change a little for photo and video modes, so you don't see video settings while in photo mode, and don't see still settings while in video mode which makes menus less cluttered.

Thanks for you prompt reply and for confirming this. So it means in my eyes that the R5 and R3 can be calssified as a really true hybrid camera. I have invested heavily on a system moving away from canon when mirrorless first came out with decent AF but the cameras of this system don't have this funcionality, now that theway I am shooting will start to change. I need to think about this and maybe come back to canon. Different tools for different jobs. Thanks again!

Glad to be of help.
Also I left out the part about picture profile (Canon term is Picture Style) and C-log. When you select C-log on the cameras then the Picture Style setting is ignored, selecting C-log takes preference over the Picture Style.

Aww, really? I guess that the c-log profile doesn’t affect the RAW? I guess when you are in video mode using that principle pressing record in photo mode it will switch to video profile (c-log, etc) and when you switch back to photo it will pick up the photo profile (standard, neutral, etc)? Thank you.

Ah, UFFF! What a relief! Thanks again for the help. The R3 is then a really true hybrid camera to my eyes!

Brian apoloies for ressurectin this post but would like to ask you the same thing I did in my very first post but now for the R1?
Additionally, is there a way if I wanted to, to disconnect the REC button mapping from C3?
Finally is there a way to confiure the REC button to any of the other C1 or C2 and goin gone step further havea custom button that I can program to then tell the camera on the fly - hey, now you are assining C1 to REC.
Hope it's clear what I asked, thanks so much.

With the EOS R1 in photo mode, pressing the record button will switch to movie mode with movie C3 mode, just like EOS R3 / EOS R5 / EOS R/ EOS R5 Mark II.
There is no custom setting to change this, though you can reconfigure the record button for other functions when in still mode, eg eye detection on/off.
On the EOS R1 you have a movie / video switch to the right of the viewfinder, unless you change its default operation then it simply switches between still and video mode. I "think" that when you switch to movie mode it goes to the mode you last used. So say you were shooting movies in movie C1 mode, then switch back to photo mode using the switch next to the viewfinder. You can be shooting in any of the photo modes, but pressing the record button will switch to movie C3 mode. I think that is as close as I can get.
There is a way of using the M-Fn key and assigning the switch to custom mode function. Conventionally this works by going from the current mode, to C1 > C2 > C3 > back to current mode for each press of the button. It doesn't appear to be limited to stills mode from what I see in the manual for both EOS R1 and ESO R5 Mark II. I have tried with when using EOS R5 Mark II in photo mode, but not in movie or at all with the EOS R1 (yet).
