Minimum shutter speed setting - Aperture priority on EOS R6

Hey everyone,

I've been using the Canon EOS R6, and I primarily shoot in aperture priority mode. I have a question regarding the minimum shutter speed setting. I want my minimum shutter speed to not go below 1/250 when I'm shooting in aperture priority mode. However, I've noticed that when I set the minimum shutter speed to 1/250, it applies to all camera modes (M, P, A, S).

Is there any way to set the minimum shutter speed only for aperture priority mode? I've looked through the settings, but haven't found a way to do this yet. It's important for me because I want to maintain a certain level of sharpness in my images, especially in fast-paced situations.

Any advice or workaround would be greatly appreciated!

There should be two minimum settings.  One for you, and one for the camera.

There are a few settings that will help, but ultimately the choice as to the most suitable for you is yours.

Option 1

For Av and P modes you can set a minimum shutter speed that applies when you are shooting with AUTO ISO. Conventionally when auto ISO is used, the camera tries to maintain a shutter speed using the reciprocal of the focal length as the minimum shutter speed. So a 50mm lens results in 1/50th as the min shutter speed with the camera increasing the ISO to allow that with the chosen aperture value in Av mode. You will find this setting in the ISO speed settings that allows you to set a specific minimum shutter speed regardless of the lens focal length. Screenshots added below.

Option 2

If you want to make sure that the minimum setting of 1/250th is applied for both manual ISO and auto ISO then you will need to use the shutter speed limits, and a custom shooting mode. Set the camera mode dial to Av, then go to the setup menu and register a custom shooting mode, eg C1. Then make sure that the auto updates are enabled, so that when you make a change to the saved settings while the mode dial is set to C1 it will update the stored settings.

Turn the mode dial to C1, then go to the custom functions menu and setup the shutter speed so the min speed is 1/250th. Now C1 is a clone of the "normal" Av mode, but with a hard limit of shutter speed at 1/250th. Other modes and regular Av on the mode dial do not have the limit.

I wanted this function to use, in the video in aperture mode.

You can't use aperture priority in video mode on the EOS R6, since when you turn the mode dial to video the only choices are full automatic exposure or manual exposure. If you are shooting still images in Av mode and then press the movie record button the camera will start recording a movie with full automatic exposure and this cannot be changed.

If the camera you have is EOS R6 Mark II, then when movie mode is selected the setting for minimum shutter speed for auto ISO is no longer available. If you are shooting still images in Av mode, and then press the movie record button the camera switches to full automatic exposure movie and starts recording.
