Mac OS X El Capitan WILL NOT RECOGNIZE EOS Rebel t3i

I have updated the utility and my computer is still not recognizing the camera when it is plugged in via USB. When I go into System Information -- USB -- the camera is not there. How can I get the pictures onto my computer??

MacBook Air 11 inch? It's what I have. I know it can work. Trying a different cable is important.
