Import 1D X files to iPad

Trying to import files from my Canon 1D X to my iPad using the USB3 Camera Connector. Works fine with my Canon T5i and a T6s. All I get when I connect my 1D X is grey squares; no images. Camera disk light flashes and if I select Delete Photos the files on the camera are erased.
Does anyone have luck importing 1DX files to iPad?
It worked last September before this round of updates.

Not a hub. It’s an adapter that plugs into an iPad and allows a standard USB cable to be connected. It’s is designed specifically for camera connection or USB card reader connection.

My camera is at Canon now so I’ll find out soon if something is wrong with it.

The iPad works fine with a USB3 card reader (I use the Pixel Flash model with a tail since it gives clearance for the power cable). The iPad dongle is $39.

Direct connection with camera eliminates two items ( reader and power cable).

Unless you have a WiFi adapter for your 1D X you can’t use Canon Connect.

Correct. I do not know how to do that, or if it’s possible, via USB. I know it can be done via WiFi.

Well our 1Dx's don't have wi-fi so I guess I will stick with the laptop.  I currently use an active (powered) USB cable and a 17" laptop with LR to tether to the 1Dx.  It works great.  It is just big.

I have used up to 75"' of USB with the active cables.
