Any possibility you engaged the self timer feature?

Hi and welcome to the forum:
What camera are you using and when does this happen specifically, please?  Is it for a few moments, or does it go on for a long time?   It is quite normal for the red light on the back right to flash as the camera is turned on as it boots up and reads the card.  That will also happen when reading and writing to a card.

I have EOS R6.  The light flashes red for a while. I press the shutter and it continues to flash and takes  delayed picture

I will check when I get home. Thanks

Usually it is a bad/full SD card.

You might want to try another one. Is this a full size card or micro with adapter? Micro Cards with adapters often have issues.

Lets be clear, you are talking about the light marked "10" here, right?

I have 2 full size cards purchased in November and I have only taken about 90 practice photos

Backup the pictures and low level format then in camera.
