EOS Rebel T8i Display Screen Not Working

Casswm

I just got this camera yesterday, December 24,  2022. It was a Christmas gift, and it is my first camera. The night I got home, I started setting things up, including charging the battery a bit. While the battery was charging, I read the manual. After the battery was charged, I started to take some pics, though they wouldn’t save due to not having an SD card. I figured out how to do everything overall with the camera. The battery wasn’t fully charged when I was messing around with it, so I put it on the charger and went to bed. I wake up morning of December 25, 2022. I turn on my camera because I got a new lense, the display does not turn on. I tried everything including taking the battery out and seeing if it needs charged, but it’s fully charged. I cannot see my display screen, the camera is on, it will focus and I can hear the sound of taking pictures. If I take a picture then I press the display I hear a little noise that sounds when you are selecting something, but that is all. I cannot see my screen, nor see the pictures I take of anything. Everything else works fine it’s just the screen. I don’t get what this issue would be, because I haven’t even had this camera for 24 hours.

Hello Casswm welcome to the forums and Merry Christmas. Will the LCD screen turn on if the "Q" button is pressed. Or if the live view shooting button is pressed. If not I would recommend returning the camera under warranty. Also what lens did you try out on your camera. Can you please post the full model name of the lens.

Merry Christmas to you too! I tried pressing Q, even holding it, nothing shows up. I also tried the live mode when I was troubleshooting myself, but nothing shows up. I believe the camera was ordered off the canon website, but since I got it for a gift I would have no clue how to return it. Thank you!

Will the LCD screen work with the lens removed. I know you mentioned using another lens other than the kit lens. Was that a Canon lens or a 3rd party lens.

Oh sorry! I totally forgot to mention the lenses, in the kit I got the EF-S 18-55/4-5.6 IS STM.
Today, I got the EF-S 18-135/3.5-5.6 IS USM.

The display screen will not work without the lenses, I have tried both.

It just blows my mind how this camera was working absolutely perfect 12 hours ago, but after leaving it overnight it won’t work.

I would look into exchanging the camera for a new one. If the person that you got the present still has the receipt they can exchange it for you.

One last thing to try.  Change the Mode to something different than what it is now.

Casswm,

This may seem like a dumb question, but did you hit the Disp button on the top right?

Hitting that turns your Display off and on.

Steve Thomas

Yes, I did that, the button appears to do nothing.
