Hello booley welcome to the forums. What is the problem with your camera exactly.

If you mean you Fujifilm is a 50x zoom you are comparing it to a 300mm lens which is a 6x zoom. The base is a 50mm lens on a 35mm film camera. That’s why the moon is larger in your Fujifilm image. .

You also need to tone down the exposure. The standard Canon Auto Exposure does not do well in this situation, you have to decrease the exposure compensation.

Your last image is pretty close. The moon is illuminated by the sun, just like a subject on earth.
A target setting would be camera in M mode, Av=11, Tv=125, ISO=100. This is sometimes known as the Loony 11 Rule. If you are trying to handhold then Tv=500 and Av=8 and ISO=400. Tweak as necessary.
Also, focusing can be difficult. In good light, set lens to MF and manually focus on a distant object. Once you have good focus use a small piece of gaffer tape or masking tape to lock the focus ring.

Do you see the 1st picture? That’s from my old camera and I thought having a 75-300 lenses the moon would be closer then that. But it’s not was told this was the best camera. Not to sure now.

So was I misinformed and This wasn’t the right zoom to get?
