EOS R7 and WiFi connection issues

Attempting to connect to the camera to iPhone for the first time.  New camera.  I am able to connect via bluetooth and connect the phone to the camera via the SSID of the camera.  When the app opens to connect the wifi it times out.  Reset the comm option with no success.  Downloaded 1.8 firmware with no success.  Called Canon and the lady on the phone was just reading from the manual and was no help at all.  Suggestions?

Welcome to the community!

if you can establish a Bluetooth connection, you are almost done. Bluetooth automates the process of establishing a WiFi connection.

Open the Canon Connect app. Try to download photos. The app will automatically connect to the camera hotspot and download photos:

in the future, opening Canon Connect will automatically restore the WiFi connection. You must have both Bluetooth and WiFi enabled.

I do not believe you read my complete post.  I can connect to the camera via bluetooth and establish wifi connection via the SSID on the camera but the app will not connect via wifi and times out.  Need help, thank you.

aftergolf,

And you have double checked that wifi is turned on on your phone?

Steve Thomas

Yes!  I can connect my phone to the camera via the SSID on the camera and password.  When I open the app after the connection and try to download the pics from the camera it times out.  No other screen appears to complete the handshake from the camera to the iPhone to the Canon Connect App.

You were given the solution. But you seemingly it.

I had assumed this issue was resolved. I only use Wi-Fi to connect to other wireless devices. I use the provided cable to connect to my computer.  Did you tell the camera what type of device you want to connect with?

Yes trying to connect to iPhone.  Will not connect via the app.

I am uncertain about your meaning.

I suggest that you reset your wireless settings in the phone and the app.  You should first establish a BT connection, and then open the app.  The app should see the camera. Try to download files.

If you’re still having problems, then I suggest you contact Canon Support.

My apologies. I misspoke. I had meant to say reset the camera wireless settings, as well as deleting any connections that you might created in the camera or the phone.

My screen shot from the User Guide shows page 738. That’s where you will the start of the section about wireless communication.

If you have not already done so, then I recommend downloading an electronic PDF copy of the manual and save it on your phone. Use this link.
