EOS R50 will not connect to anything. Not phone, not computer, usb/bluetooth/wifi, ANYTHING.

Hello,

I just purchased an EOS R50 and am thinking it is defective. I have a Pixel 9 Pro XL which I have seen some people discussing pixel connectivity issues in past posts. It successfully locates and connects with the phone in the app but fails whenever it tries to connect and use wifi to transfer photos. I tried setting both devices to WP2, no luck, I attempted a USB-C connection, won't recognize the camera, just tells me to plug it in... nothing happens. Forget pairing, reconnect, nothing. Restart devices, nothing. Camera firmware is up to date.

Ok let's try my macbook air. Install latest version EOS utility, can't find it by default. I set the wifi connection to home home network with password and it "pairs" successfully but then immediately throws up Err12. Forget connection and try again? Nope. Connect USB-C to macbook, nothing showing in finder or anywhere else to acknowledge connection other than the mac initially asking to allow connected device.

What in the heck is the point of this camera? Like I am at a total loss. It just DOESN'T WORK in any capacity, it's basically a camera from the early 2000s as none of these features work! What the heck can I do other than try and exchange it? As of this moment the camera has never connected to a single other device after attempting all available methods.

Greetings,

I suggest you reach out to Canon Support.  They're friendly and helpful.  I'm sure they can help you get it going.  Worth noting Wi-Fi has to be disabled on the camera if you use a cable.

Why not just pop out the card and put it into a card reader?

I have a eos r50 and pixel 9 pro xl and they connect with bluetooth fine, but when its time to transfer pics from camera to phone it fails. Getting both to communicate via wifi is a no go for now.  have spoken to Canon support and they have said that there software doesn't support android 16 as of yet. I have also sent a bug report to Google support to see wht they can do. BUT my Google Pixel 8 pro and Galaxy ultra tab s10 both connect perfectly to the camera via bluetooth nd wifi.... I think the camera is fine as it connects fine to other devices.

Anyway waiting to hear back from Google support.

I've never understood the allure of WiFi when loading from my Canons to my Mac via a cord is lightning fast.

For me it's about sending the pics straight to my phone and then backing them to the cloud. Which is way more convient for me.

Greetings,

I'm running Android 16 on my Pixel 8.  My R5 C connects to the Canon Connect app on my mobile device without any issues.  So it's definitely not the OS.

To each his own most definitely.

For me that would be exactly what I don't want.

Good luck in your frustration being solved so that you can get back to enjoying what you do.

Yeah I am also running android 16 on my Pixel 8 pro and the camera connects fine. Canon support ended the support with me by saying android 16 is not supported.
