EOS R10 Focus bracketing prevents registering custom mode

Hi, guys and gals-

Trying to set up a "custom mode" for my R10.

For macro, I'd like to try using the in-camera auto bracketing/stacking feature, using the required Auto Focus. (unfortunately not available with Manual Focus, bummer).

In "M" mode, I set up all of my parameters as I'd like them in custom mode C1, but it won't "register" - I get the message

"Not available because of the associated function setting (dot/bullet point) Focus Bracketing".

Why not???????

Many thanks for your knowledgeable, experienced, caring responses, in advance. And yes, I'd like fries with that...

Hi Mike,

I just tried something similar with my EOS R10. I set the camera to manual exposure and then enabled focus bracketing. When I went to the SET UP menu to store the custom mode the Custom shooting mode (C1, C2) text is greyed out and I get the same not available because of the associated functions setting. Focus bracketing.

What this means is that you cannot store focus bracketing to a custom mode. If I switch off the focus bracketing function then it is possible to store the manual exposure to the custom mode I select. Then when I switch to C1 or C2 I can go to the menu and activate focus bracketing. However as soon as the mode is changed from the custom mode, even C1 to C2 focus bracketing is switched off.

For comprehensive info - I did the same with EOS R6 and EOS R6 Mark II and they behave in the same way.

Here's a quick summary

  • You cannot register a custom mode with focus bracketing active.
  • Focus bracketing is also cancelled whenever the camera is turned off in any mode, C1 / C2 / C3 / P / M etc.
  • With focus bracketing active you can switch between M / P / Tv / Av / Fv modes, but not between any custom modes.

Hello, Mike

It won't work in MF mode because the camera requires AF to advance the focal plane, that's just the way the in camera stacking works - pretty typical 🙂

" 'Not available because of the associated function setting (dot/bullet point) Focus Bracketing'. Why Not??????"

The reason it will not save as a custom setting is that, in the R10, Focus Bracketing is disabled when the camera is turned off (see page 289 of the advanced users guide).

Many thanks!

Thank you!
