EOS R - Switching to Aperture Priority

Hello:  I was given a Canon EOS R camera.

I'm trying to get it to Aperture Priority.  The instruction manual indicates that I should press the "Mode" button, and then select Aperture Priority.  Whenever I press the Mode button, all I get is "Focus Guide On' or "Focus Guide Off."  I don't get the menu that is shown in the instruction manual.

How do I get the camera into Aperture Priority mode?

Thank you for your help.

Hi:  I just got off the phone with the person who gave me the camera.  It seems that I inadvertently assigned a different function to the "Mode" button.  He guided me on how to set it back to its original function.  I now can adjust the settings to the priority that I want.  Thank you for your help, and I apologize for the faux pas.

Are you talking about the original EOS R or a different camera R series camera. It sounds custom functions may have been set up. I would reset the camera back to factory default.
