Hi folks from the North of England
I've had my EOS90D for around 18months and love it. I'm still on a massive learning curve, but have stuck to my Raw M principles for most of the time. I recently ventured into Bees wings and butterflies with your help and guidance. And I also took some sporting pictures of fast bowling in cricket, which I was quite pleased with.
Now, I'm getting towards the end of my Dummies book and realised I haven't used C1 and C2. I can see how it works and why but would really appreciate some Innovative ideas for using these modes with purpose. I don't use the Movie option- no interest.
I take a mixture of macro wildlife and railway stock and architecture.
Currently using a 70-300 zoom and 24, 50 and 100 macro lenses.
Welcome your ideas for C1&2

I like your idea of cloning. A few days ago I went in pursuit of butterflies on a country walk. I began with a monopod and ended up hand held fast shooting. I need to go back and check everything I did as it was all rather chaotic.
Thanks

Many of use use them in conjunction with modifying the buttons on the body for functions we prefer to move to quickly. On every one of my bodies C1 is set up for dual back button focus with metering set to spot, shutter speed set at 1/2500 and f8. I use this for wildlife with the exception of birds in flight. C3 is similar but with an expanded focus selection for birds in flight.
Just about every button or dial is configurable and saving them lets you quickly change your setup easily and keeps them saved when you turn off the camera. If you make changes and do not save them the camera will revert back to its original setting when you turn it off.
This is a decent video on the options for custom settings

Thanks Marc
Really useful. I regularly 'take my camera for a walk' around my local lanes and paths, where I can be shooting bugs, leaves and flying insects - so your setting looks good. The 90D only has C1&2 - no 3 for some reason.
The video is also very helpful.
Thanks

Glad it helped! There are some good YouTube video on the topic and tutorials on how to set them up. I find that my C1 for wildlife works well for sports if I go into the menu and change animals to people but that is on an R series body.

I have one tip... put a small sticker in behind the LCD that reminds you what you configured C1 / C2 for. This can be a as little as C1 - birds in flight C2 - macro
I would be so happy for Canon to give the possibility to add a user defined short name for each of the custom modes that would be displayed on the screen when the mode was selected.
Personally I use one of the custom modes when I'm evaluating new camera settings. I clone the mode I normally use, and then adjust the saved settings of the custom mode so I can quickly switch between my normal configuration and the "experimental" new one.

Good idea Brian. I'll do the stickers straight away, given the reliability of my memory!
