Diagonal Black Stripe Across Photographs: Canon EOS 70D Camera

Canarsie
Contributor

Greetings,

After 11.5 years and many thousands of photographs with my trusted Canon EOS 70D camera which I purchased new, a diagonal black stripe started to appear across every photograph with a white strip at the bottom.

I took off the lens and lifted up the mirror; and this is what I saw...

When I was able to push that black strip back up, I was able to take a photograph as normal — but the black strip returned to its diagonal position across the shutter.

Nothing unusual occurred when this started happening. I did not drop the camera or did anything out of the ordinary; so I am uncertain as to what caused this to happen.

What could be the problem? Can it be repaired? Do I need to purchase a new camera?

Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the .pdf. It may be a bit outdated. As I was scanning California stores, I noticed Canoga Camera was listed though it has been out of business for a significant while now.

Just spoke to Victoria at Canon (excellent customer service) and was pointed to a current listing.

Authorized Canon seller's are supposed to abode by a minimum advertised price, or MAP. Retailers do still have some flexibility but for the most part the price will be the same at the top most trusted stores.

EOS 1DX and many lenses.

I would have to assume that for differentiation purposes, competitors will add bundles to their products, offer superior service, or do something else to stand out to customers.

Otherwise, why purchase a camera from Adorama instead of B&H Photo if the camera is the same price?

Aside from the kits that Canon does from time to time where they may put a body and two lenses out as a set, the store bundles I've seen over the years will put a lot of cheap, low-end stuff around a body and make you think you're getting a steal.

Remember, businesses are not in the game to lose money. They are making a profit on that bundle that seems like a steal.

Superior service IS a way that a store will stand out. A good store will realize who is a repeat customer and sometimes when stock of something is hard to get, they will fulfill an order from a repeat customer before someone who isn't. And yes, I know that from personal experience.
