Big Numbers in Bracket F 5.6 (1999) next to Aperture On 5D MK iii

Hi everyone,

I’ve noticed something unusual on my Canon camera’s top LCD screen. Next to the aperture value (f/5.6), it displays "(1999)", which I haven’t seen before.

The camera works fine—I can take and view pictures without issues.

It’s not a lens problem because I’ve tested multiple lenses.

I’ve reset all settings but the issue remains.

Firmware is up to date.

The camera is set to One Shot AF mode, and other settings seem normal.

Has anyone encountered this before? Is it related to a specific setting or display option? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance

It’s displaying the estimated number of shots remaining on the memory card.  “1999” is the highest number it can display.

Do you have the manual for your camera?  It has pictures of the displays showing what everything is.

Minor clarification: The LCD panel displays approximately how many images the camera can fit on the card. Several things, including recording videos, your chosen quality setting, and the visual complexity of your subjects, can impact this number.

The manual touches on this starting on PAGE 31. 👈🏻Tap here

The semi-confusing part is that the number won't change until the number of available photos drops below 1999, so if you're using a very large card, the number might never change!

I don't as i got it second hand. But yeah i think it's telling how much of a pictures i can take before i need to charge. 🙂

No. It is telling the number of pictures you can take before your card fills up

While you're looking at the Page 31 link, download the entire manual. Then you will be able to see the tremendous amount of stuff there is to know about your professional-level camera.  You bit off a lot with this acquisition.
