Canon EF 75-300mm Lens Twists But Doesn't Actually Zoom

Hiya.

I'm having an issue with my Canon EF 75-300mm lens, I've had it since November 2021, the camera body is a Canon EOS4000D. I always try and be as gentle as possible when it comes to placing it, and have never dropped it or hit it off of anything.

I went out today and as I went to take a photo I noticed the focus on the lens wouldn't work, nor would the zoom, I found that the barrel of the lens can still twist as normal, but it was a bit more loose than usual, and I heard a rattling noise when I moved it slightly, it sounded like a small piece of plastic or a screw rattling around inside.

I don't have any specialist equipment required to do any maintenance and can't afford to buy a new one or even just to get it fixed, so if its a complicated issue then please let me know.

Any replies appreciated, thank you so much in advance.

*Any* repair of a lens is a complicated issue. You will need to contact Canon to see how much it will cost to look at it.

Unlike the 18-55, there is no easy way to "pop" it back into joint.

Thank you for the reply, I will do, daft question but how do I contact Canon?

I would assume via email.

What country are you in? Since you said "daft" I think perhaps not USA.

I am sorry to say that I suspect you will find that the cost of fixing this lens is greater than the value of the lens, which is arguably one of Canon's worst optics.  That said, it never hurts to ask.

That is the tell-tail fact. It isn't worth fixing which it obviously needs. Look for a good working used lens. Your least expensive option, IMHO.
