Hi All,
I have been using canon R6 Mark II since 2 Years and it has been one of the best purchases but from last 3 Months I am facing one annoying issue, Did anyone else faced similar issue and was there any solution?
I started using Pre-Recording for Video on this camera from last 3 Months, Works perfectly fine but with 1 Minor issue and 1 Major issue
1) I Sometime keep the half shutter pressed for longer duration lets say about 2 to 3 Mins and then I dont press the shutter as I didn't want any video but the camera says its Busy and takes about 4 to 6 Seconds - This has occurred multiple times, I understand if I had pressed the shutter full and there was some video to be written to the card but here there is nothing to write and I am using V90 SD card.
2) *****MAJOR ISSUE****** - This is really annoying and I have lost few shots due to this. It doesnt happen always but in the last 3 Months it has happened at least thrice. When I do pre-recording and the video is written to the Card and I am ready to shoot the next video, If I change the Dial to some other function Like C2, C3,M etc or if I switch from Video to Photo, The camera hangs completely with no response at all, even the Power off doesnt work. The only option is to remove the battery and restart.
Has any one seen this before especially the 2nd issue?
Thanks
Sree

What is “pre-recording for video”?
Where in the menu is the setting to enable it?
What shooting mode is the camera in when this issue happens? M, Tv, etc? Is the camera switched to video recording or photo mode?
Why are you using the shutter to capture video?

Pre-recording lets you continously capture a short duration of video before recording actually starts. Useful when action is about to happen. Once you start video recording, the bit of pre-recorded footage will also be captured; leading to far less missed moments.
See page 407 of the User Manual.

I'd like to ask for additional clarification please.
In the description of your first issue, you mentioned "holding the shutter button half press for 2 to 3 minutes"? I'm trying to understand when this would be needed? I'm not understanding. Can you please provide more detail?
If pre-recording was enabled, you'd be in a constant capture state. This would assuredly overwhelm the camera, v90 aside.
For your second issue, I'm not sure that it's not a result of whatever is happening with item #1. You mentioned there's no media card activity when the freeze occurs. There seems to be more complexity to this. However, without more detail, I'm not sure how someone could try to reproduce the behavior.
Thanks 🙂

Thanks for the explanation. Except Sree suggested that he was also using photo mode, too. As Shadowsports indicated, it’s unclear how to reproduce the issue.

I agree. I knew what pre-recording was. I wanted to understand what it meant to him. Making sure language was not getting in the way,.

Hi All,
thanks for the responses. Let me make it clear , might be I lost it in the long Explanation.
I am in Video Mode (Video Switch on the Left)
I am shooting in C1 for 30p, C2 for 60p and C3 for 180p but I usually use C1 or C2 when in Pre-Recording (Video),
Lets say I am waiting for a Bird to take Flight, I hold the Shutter Half Pressed so the Pre-Recording is Engaged and then When the bird actually Fly, I press the Full Shutter, This could take sometime 2 to 3 Mins, So in this scenario I press the Shutter half for 2 or 3 Mins.
Now what I meant by Photo Mode is , Lets say I wait for 2 or 3 Mins in Pre-Recording in Video and then either after actually Pressing the Shutter full and capturing the video to the Card or not Pressing the Full Shutter, I might Switch from Video to Photo on the Left Side Toggle Button or I might switch to a different Custom Mode from what I am currently, in either of these 2 Scenarios my Camera is Frozen with only option is to remove the batter and restart for the camera to work.
I hope this clarifies, happy to provide more details if required.

Thanks for the clear explanation, Sree!
What is the end result that you are seeing? Is it capturing video of birds in flight, or lifting off?
or, are you looking to capture stills of birds taking off? In this case, you could enable Preview AF, captures a short burst of stills before you fully press the shutter. No data is saved to the memory card until you fully press the shutter.
