70-200mm f2,8 no AF with 5D mark iii

Recently purchased 5D iii my 70-200mm will not AF.  I've used the lens on Rebel T3i with no issues.  I have checked the settings on the lens and have tried both distances (i.e. 1.2  and 2.5). Since the lens works perfectly with the T3i right now it does not look like I need to send the lens for service.  I'm really hoping this is just a silly OE.

Check that you don't have back button focus enabled and shutter button set for metering and exposure only.

Common problem on a used high end camera.

Did you buy a used camera, or a used lens?

If you brought a used camera, it is always a good idea to go through all of the menus and reset everything in the camera back to factory default, most especially Custom Controls.  The used camera may be set for BBF, and you do not realize it.

If you bought a used lens, and the 5D3 works with other lenses, then it sounds like you could have a lens issue.  But, check the camera to see if you have BBF enabled.

thank for you response.  The camera is used.  The lens I purchased new a couple of years ago.  Never had any problems with it.  Eventually I learned that there were settings on the camera that I had not checked/changed.

OK we know it is not the lens. Correct? The first solution is to reset the 5D Mk III to default settings. You can do this in the Menus, Tools and clear all settings and clear all custom settings, too.

"Recently purchased 5D iii ..."

This almost has to be a used camera as I do not think anybody still has a Mk III new but in any case if it is used you should always reset a used camera.

EOS 1DX and 1D Mk IV and less lenses then before!

It was used.  And the problem was OE.  I had not checked all of other settings for the camera.  Once I adjusted to that it's been good to go.  I wish I could consider IDX  etc ....  but they are way out of price range at thise time.
