PIXMA TR8622a - Touch Screen Frozen After Firmware Update

why-oh-why
Apprentice

Printer did a firmware update and now the touch screen is locked up at "update successful" and the click "OK" button.. touch screen does nothing. will not respond to tapping on the OK button. I have tried powering down and waiting and then powering up and no change. I am about to pitch this Canon product into the dump and try a different brand... Any suggestions out there to possibly get around this glitch so I can print again???

If the TR8622A touch screen is frozen right after a firmware update, try these fixes in order:

  1. Power-cycle properly (unplug AC)
  • Turn the printer off.
  • Unplug the AC power cord from the wall outlet (not just the power button).
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in directly to the wall outlet and power on. This is often the only “reset” needed when the touchscreen locks up after a firmware/update scenario.
  1. Change the power-saving settings (to stop it happening again)
  • On the printer display, tap the gear icon
  • ECO  Energy saving settings
  • Set Auto power off to Never
  • Set Auto power on to ON
  • Tap OK, then return to the Home screen.
  1. If the screen won’t respond at all Since you can’t tap the menus, focus on (1) first. If it still freezes:
  • After the AC unplug/replug, watch for whether the printer finishes booting normally. If not let us know.

Took 5 attempts per your instruction. finally got touch screen to respond and got past the update successful screen and the OK button.... Changed ECO settings per your instruction.  Got the home screen to show up but unresponsive to touch. Went thru power down sequence three more times and finally got printer touch screen to respond. This has been a very frustrating ordeal with this canon printer. Thank  you for your help. We will see how long it stays in operating mode this time. Its been a great little printer except for this frustrating touch screen issue.  I was offered the Canon Upgrade Program last time it did this. Will that still be available to me since this seems to be an issue that pops up sometimes..... Thanks again.....
