new mx922 printing fuzzy

I have a new mx 922 which is printing wirelessly from my MacBook Pro running 10.6.8.  It has the setup ink cartridges in it and is loading paper from the bottom tray.  The printing is coming out mostly crisp but with a fuzzy section left of center all the way down the page and has been doing this since I set it up last week.  Do I need to send it back or is this something I can adjust?

Thanks in advance,

Phoebe

Hi bluetruck,

From what you describe, it sounds like you have a dirty or damaged encoder strip.  First, let's check to see if the encoder is just dirty.  Check out this article from our Knowledge Base: Cleaning the encoder (timing) strip - MX922.

I was having fuzzy printing. Tried everything that search and Canon suggested without any luck. This might solve your problem also. The print head contacts pins on the back of the holder. Carefully clean these pins. I used alcohol and a small paint brush very carefully so not to bend or break these pins. Now working fine for me. I also cleaned the head and strip before a couple of times and did not solve the problem. This worked for me. Bought another cheaper canon to replace this one before trying this. Was able to print 300 pages on the MX922 after cleaning those pins. Just be careful.
