TR8620 will not print black and white but prints color fine. Black ink cartridge is genuine canon

No black and white at all? What happens when you try?

Nothing prints--spits out blank papar.  Yesterday it printed very smudged in some areas and faint in other areas.

Black and white photo or black and white text? Text uses a different cartridge.

Any ink level warnings? Run a nozzle check.
