I went through all the knowledge base already, did everything suggested, and nothing worked. I just bought an Epson about 10 minutes ago. Done with Canon for good.

I am not sure what you mean by "bricked'. Does your PIXMA TR8520 power on? Does an error appear on the display of your printer?
The PIXMA TR8520 does have a USB port. It is located on the back of your printer. It is #5 in the image below:

that may be where it is supposed to be, but it is not a usb port.
It went to the recyclers today.

For the benefit of others who might see this it is a USB port. It uses a printer USB cable.
