Printer on and off continuously

NicolaeSfetcu

Hello,

The printer is MX495.

I did not us it for a while and today, when I started it, it turns on and off each 5 seconds.

All the printer buttons are blocked, including the power button (I cannot turn it off from the power button).

While the printer is on, no matter if I open or not the front cover, the cartridge holder moves continuously left and right without stopping.

There is a single word displayed on the display: ”Canon”.

Can you help me with an advice to eliminate this problem?

Thank you.

Can you confirm this has nothing to do with an update on firmware because there are many of us that are experiencing the same issue with the same model printer within the last couple days. We are on canon community looking for a fix but is buying a new printer the only option you can give us to try first?

No, it was not an update. I will go with it at a specialized service center, I think this is the best solution as I cannot solve it. Two days ago it works fine, and today just when I started it I have such issues.

I find it hard to believe this is a hardware issue. There are multiple threads on both these Forums and Reddit now of people with MX490 and MX492 experiencing the same issue over the last couple of days.

Many people are having the problem at the same time.  There is an issue with the firmware in these printers, I think.

This is not a solution at all.  The number of people experiencing this issue all at once is growing, Cannon clearly did something with an update push that bricked all these printers.  The odds of all these people  encountering this issue all at once out of now where is extremely unlikely.  Cannon better find an actual fix quickly.  It's only a matter of time before it makes the news - Cannon bricking printers and offering upgrades at customers' costs....Do better.

Having the same issue.  MX492 worked completely normal a few days ago, now it's stuck in an endless restart loop - keypad is unresponsive.  There's been no power outages or surges.  Have left the printer unplugged for a few hours and tried again to no avail.

Curious if you all still have this same issue when printer is not connected to wifi (router is off). In a similar thread for the MG7520, when wifi is unavailable, the printer boots up and behaves as expected. Which would seemingly point to a firmware issue...

Can the good folks at Canon at least tell us something?? Tell us you're at least aware of the issue. If you pushed an update that jacked up the firmware then fix it or roll back the changes. It's simple. I know it is because I was in this line of work. Just tell us you're working on the issue or roll back the changes.

We need this printer in our business. We're all experiencing the same issue at the same time. The printer is stuck rebooting itself. Will you please help us? Please
