Pixma 860 won't print black

BillHaynes

My Pixma 860 all-in-one printer will not print black.  One or two pages will print in an unreadable light gray but then by the third page fade to nothing.  Changing the two black ink cartridges has not effect.  Going through the Maintenance cleaning operations has no effect.

Using Win 7 connected via USB.  The failure to print black was sudden.  I can't think of anything else pertinent.
