PIXMA TR8650a B&W photo printing gives warm grays instead of neutral gray/black

I'm trying to get neutral black and white photos out of my Pixma TR8650a. I'm using the Canon Pro Luster Paper (LU-101). Running a Mac using MacOS 15.6.1 with settings for the specific paper and "Print In Color" turned to "off".

The issue is that I'm getting warm grays instead of a more neutral gray/black. I tried printing to some old cheap photo paper and it's much better, so I'm thinking that maybe the Luster is just a warmer paper?

Canon's information and advice other various papers is pretty inadequate, to say the least, so I'm hoping someone else has had this issue and solved it. Is there a better paper to use?

(There is also no way, as far as I can tell, to force the printer to only use a specific ink cartridge, i.e. Black, on a Mac, even though Windows can - strange!)

Hi thgirwlien,

What application are you using to print your image?

Have you tried using Easy-PhotoPrint Editor?

If you do not have this application, it is available for download from the Support page of your PIXMA TR8620a:

I have used it, yes. I've also tried printing from various other applications with many different settings and it always comes out with a magenta hue. I was hoping the driver would allow me to set it to print using only the black cartridge but there is no option to do choose a cartridge in th eMAc driver (unlike the Windows one).
