i bought this printer last year because it supported both windows and chrome and have printd with with chrome now it doesn't connect with our chromebook. what the heck. How can canon do this? It is hard to find a canon printer that supports Chromebooks and I am not buying another canon printer just so canon can pull its support after purchase. Not happy with canon.

Canon lists the TR8620 series as having ChromeOS support: https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART178764
I have never heard of a situation where Canon sends out over the air modifications to devices.
Please describe exactly what occurred. Have you updated your computer? How is your printer connected to your computer?
