It's been a while now that my 8620a keeps trying to print from the rear tray and error shows up on every single print job saying no paper in the back tray. I've already restarted the printer and no luck. Feels like some sort of sensor in the back is broken and makes it think it's open while the back tray is fully closed.

Thank you. I downloaded the new driver and printed a test page, I found a setting to select the cassette to print from, and the rear tray was no longer an issue but the test page came out blank. When I try to print my document nothing happens at all, no error message and no printing.

Has there been an actual resolution for this issue?
I have 2 Cannon Printers. I just purchased a Cannon TR8620a. I printed one document a few days ago. I am trying to use the printer now and despite resetting the computer, re-installing the software, changing the cassette settings it still wants to print from the rear tray which I have never used that setting. This is my second Cannon with the same rear tray printer issue. I still cannot resolve the issue on the Cannon G6000 series(which also stopped printing all together even though it has plenty of ink in it). This is becoming very frustrating. Where are all the old printers, connect, set up, hit print and it prints. There is no reason a brand new printer only days old should be doing this.

Hello!
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your printers. This problem often happens when your computer defaults to the non-Canon drivers. If you install or reinstall the Canon software and drivers, you will be able to select the desired paper source. The current software and downloads are available from within your Canon Account, but the quickest fix is to reinstall from the setup site.
The G6000-series printer is likely the PIXMA G6020 -- you can verify the exact model from the front panel of the printer. You can get the correct software for it from your Canon Account or
Here are shortcuts to everything:

Same issue here. No solution here works including the paper size fix. Printer will get returned tomorrow. No more canon for me.

It’s also telling the canon puts more effort into gamification of their support system than fixing their hardware. Note that the official solution is to fake CHANGE THE PAPER-SIZE as a workaround rather than fixing the problem. Bad form.

Hey, exactly same PIXMA TR8620a issue was here—keeps trying rear tray printing, "no paper in back tray" error on every job even when fully closed. Restarted too, no luck.
Then i tried these step: Go to Menu > tap the Gear icon > open Feed Settings > set the rear tray to 4×6. Gently clean the flap sensor area.
That method fixed the issue for me. If the sensor is damaged, it’s best to get a professional printer repair service.

Number one, where are the sensors in the back feed area, and how do you clean them. I’m have NO luck fixing this. This is on Canon. I have two Canon printers, one very expensive photo printer and the TR8620a. From the comments, this probably isn’t only for that printer but others. I’d like to be able to duplex print again!!!!

So, on my TR8620a, I followed your advice, “cleaning” the sensors, assumed that you meant the rear feed sensors, not really knowing where they were, with compressed air. Then, made sure the rear paper guides were not 8.5x11, fully closed the rear feed, and tried to print again. I did NOT use the Canon printing app. But, it worked, for now. I’ve fixed this before and the problem returns, so we will see. When I printed, I made sure to change the auto feed to main tray, and the paper size to letter. I left the rear feed paper size to 4x6. I have not tried duplex printing yet.

Yes, still tries to print from the rear feed. Set to 4x6, cassette set to Letter, cleaned the rear sensors with compressed air, and STILL wants to print from the rear. Is this printer a piece of junk? I really like Canon as a whole but this is unforgivable that you can’t fix a problem that sooooo many people are having.

So, I finally downloaded the Canon printing app and printed from my phone and it worked. We will see if it holds. I am skeptical.
