PIXMA TR8620 - printing blank pages after replacing an ink cartridge

I replaced an ink cartridge with a third-party cartridge, now my TR8620 is printing only blank pages. When I try a print head alignment I get an error 2900 when it scans the print head alignment sheet. How can I fix this?

Greetings,

This is likely the result of the specific brand of third-party ink.  Canon does not block or in any way keep you from using your device even if you use third-party inks or toners.  For guaranteed compatibility and color accuracy, etc. they recommend that you use Canon branded products.  The printer's firmware also doesn't do anything to keep you from using another brand of ink.  Third party inks and toners are not created equally.  In some cases the manufacturing is inferior and the inks used do not always have the best quality.  They are manufactured to be cheap, not necessarily good.  So you can use third-party toners and inks but understand that your results may vary.  We have even seen some brands work consistently for a long while and then stop working well or at all.  I'd return the cartridge and try another brand.  Or just buy Canon brand Ink and avoid these types of headaches all together.

Is it possible that the printer firmware has disabled normal printing because it senses a third-party ink cartridge? It reports them as 'genuine'. I've been using this brand of third-party ink cartridges for over a year with no trouble. I would replace the cartridges with Canon ones if knew that would fix the problem, but don't want to waste my money if that's not it. So in the meantime I have no working printer. This is ridiculous.

1. was it working before? Was it the pigment black cartridge you replaced that is printing blank when you try to print text?

2. have you run a nozzle check?

3. verify that there isn't any plastic wrapper stuck on top blocking the vent hole.

4. if one of the colors isn't printing it may be rejecting the nozzle check.

Thank you Rick, this clarifies a lot. I'll replace the cartridge(s).
