PIXMA TR4722 not printing true black from iPad

I just installed a new TR4722 and cannot get the black ink to print true black when printing from my iPad. It will copy true black when I scan a document but not when printing from a device. The ink cartridges are what came with the printer. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Slewis6813! Thanks for contributing to the community. I see that your prints are not coming out true black when you print from your iPad.

Please note that the printer uses the Paper Type and Color Mode setting on a device to choose which ink cartridge to use. To make sure that the black cartridge is used, you will need to select "Plain Paper" as the Type. The Color mode setting should be grayscale, black and white, or monotone. If those settings are not being selected, the printer may use the color cartridge to make black (which will not look like true black).

When you print directly from your iPad, you do not often get the option to choose the paper type, size, or other print settings. The iPad selects everything for you. Therefore, I recommend checking to see if you can choose both the Paper Type and Color Mode settings within the app you are using to view your document or image. If you can find those settings, please make sure that "Plain Paper" is selected as the type. If you see a choice between color and grayscale, please choose grayscale (or whatever is opposite of color).

If you can't get a good black print after making sure "Plain Paper" and "Grayscale" are selected (or if you can't find the settings that allow you to choose the paper type, I recommend that you download and install the Canon PRINT app. It is free from Apple's App Store.

When the app opens for the first time, you will be prompted to grant permissions. Please grant them. Then, allow the app to search for the printer. It will find the printer if it is connected to the same network as your iPad. Once the printer is added, you will see the apps main screen.

After you select the Document Print option from the main screen in the Canon PRINT app, you can choose a document. Then, you can check the print settings and make sure that Plain Paper and Grayscale are selected before printing that document.

You can also share a document or image with the Canon PRINT app. Once that file opens within Canon PRINT, you will be able to check the settings and make sure that Plain Paper and Grayscale are selected. The following web article has links to information about the Canon PRINT app:
https://support.usa.canon.com/kb/s/article/ART162555

When the page opens, please click on iOS/ iPadOS Devices to see the articles that will help with your iPad.

I hope this information helps. Thanks again.
