Prints Black type that is normal, bold, and blurry throughout the Word Document. Running Windows operating system. Is this a firmware or cartridge issue? We recently installed a new Black cartridge.

Was it a Canon cartridge? The following may help you:
Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the ink cartridges have enough ink. Replace them if they are low.
Print Nozzle Check Pattern:
Clean the Print Head:
Check Cartridge Installation:
Adjust Print Quality Settings:

Blurry printing from your PIXMA TR4720 can be caused when the encoder/timing strip inside of your printer is smudged or has debris.
To clean the encoder/timing strip, please follow the steps outlined in the following Knowledgebase Article available:
