PIXMA MX922 brand new but only gets error 6000

I posted a version of this message as a reply to someone else's message but I realized that I should give the message its own post. I hope that's OK. The issue: My PIXMA MX922 is brand new. It will not work. I went through all the steps in the setup instructions but after I put in the MP-101 paper and pressed OK, I got the Error 6000 message. I turned the machine off, turned it back on, but still got that error message. I tried the suggestion about powering it off for 30 minutes, but when I powered it on, I got the same error message. There can't be a paper jam because there's never been any paper in it. When I tried to call the Canon service number, the virtual assistant asked for the phone number associated with my account. I put in the phone number and the virtual assistant said that it wasn't recognized. I've tried this 8 times and I always get the same message. I'm sure the phone number is correct. Does anyone on this forum have any suggestions for me as to how to fix this problem? Or is there a way to chat with someone given that I can't get through by phone? Or is there another way to reach a live person in a way that doesn't involve calling the service number? Thank you.

Greetings,

The MX922 is about 12 yrs old and was retired in 2021.  Where did you buy your printer?  Was it from a Authorized dealer?

Error 6000 indicates a paper jam or the inability of the ink carrier to move freely.  Recheck the inside to make sure you've removed all the packing materials and tape.  I'd be leery about keeping a device which is no longer under support.
