PIXMA MX922 - blurred printing in only one head direction

Model Pixma 922

I have executed the head cleaning and alignment protocols. The printer still prints blurred text in only one direction of the print head's travel. The opposite direct prints the text perfectly. Would love getting some suggestions.

Thanks.

Hi njnelson,

Blurry printing can be caused by a smudge on the encoder/timing strip inside of your PIXMA MX922.

To clean the encoder/timing strip, please follow the steps outlined in the following Knowledgebase Article:

Clean the timing (encoder) strip - MX922

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for the suggestion. Carefully examined the timing strip and found it completely clean.

Some additional data. I have 2 Pixma MX922s purchased an the end of 2017 after the model was discontinued. One was for printing the other for spare parts, total was $135. Used both off and on and both show the same problem. Now, if I change the print color of the document from black to cyan or magenta, I get a perfectly printed page. Cleaning the print head did not fix the problem. Bit the bullet and ordered a new print head, cost = $130. Same as e the two printers. Will see if that fixes the problem.
