PIXMA MX870 Ink Absorber

I am receiving alert that my PIXMA MX870 ink absorber is almost full and to contact service center.  I have couple of questions: 1) this printer has been great but is at least 10 years old so wondering if it's time to get rid of it or pay for service; 2) trying to get help from Canon has been a nightmare (which I won't go into), but anyone have any ideas how to find a repair center?  Thanks

I am in the same situation. But it is not too obvious how to get the absorber out. Apparently it is under the cartridges but I cannot see how to get at it. Did you succeed?

Had a tech friend help me replace my MX722's. Had to take the printer apart to get inside & at it. But still cant clear the message code. So I would say, buy a new one!
