PIXMA MX310 Ink Mechanism Goes Back and Forth, Alarm Light Comes On

When I turn on my Pixma MX310 the START light comes on, the ink mechanism goes back and forth and the readout just says Canon and this keeps going over and over. When I hit the reset button, the alarm light comes on. I have unplugged it and checked paper feed and the ink cartridges are in correctly... Any ideas?

The PIXMA MX310 is an older model which we have retired. While that means that Canon USA no longer offers direct support for it, your friends here in the Canon Community are welcome to offer suggestions.
