PIXMA MG7720 acting like it is out of ink

Hello, I bought an XL black cartridge for my PIXMA MG7720 on 3/31.  I've only printed one or two things.  Today I went to print a shipping label and it was very streaky.  I tried taking it out and shaking it, the print just got lighter and lighter.  I touched the pad of ink with a corner of a piece of paper and ink came off, so the end isn't dried out.

Troubleshooting Streaky Prints on Canon Pixma MG7720

If your Canon Pixma MG7720 is printing streaky and acting like it is out of ink, follow these steps to resolve the issue.

Run the Cleaning Function

  1. Turn on the Printer: Ensure your printer is powered on and has paper loaded in the tray.
  2. Access Maintenance:

    • Select the setup icon on the printer's display.
    • Navigate to "Maintenance."
  3. Initiate Cleaning:

    • Choose “Cleaning” and confirm by selecting “Yes.”
    • The printer will clean the printhead for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Check Print Quality:

    • After cleaning, the printer will prompt you to print a nozzle check pattern.
    • If the pattern is full, the cleaning was successful. If it’s faint or broken, repeat the cleaning process.

Check Ink Cartridge Levels

  • Inspect Ink Levels: Low ink can cause streaky prints. Check the ink levels in your cartridges.
  • Replace Cartridges: If the ink is low, replace the cartridges to ensure optimal print quality.

Additional Considerations

  • Printhead Issues: If cleaning does not resolve the problem,  faulty cartridge or clogged printheads may need to be replaced.
