PIXMA MG2522 - Getting Error codes 5000 and 1403

Trying to print from my computer and first got the error code 5000. When I restarted the printer I started to get 1403.

Is there anything I can do myself to fix the problem? The cartridges shouldn't be empty, there also isn't a light on the printer indicating they are running low.

Thanks for joining the conversation, subcine23!

The model number you provided looks like it's incomplete as the PIXMA MG2500 series usually uses 4-digit numbers in their model names.  Your printer's model name should appear on top of the unit just above the ON/OFF button, so please let us know what you see there.   That, and any other details you'd like to give will help the Community better understand your issue!

If this is a time-sensitive matter, click HERE search our knowledge base or find additional support options HERE.

Thanks and have a great day!

Hopefully you now have error 1403 only, these are some hints as to what is causing the error. If your cartridges are made by a third party the chance that the 1403 error is cartridge related increases.

Understanding Error Codes 5000 and 1403

When encountering error codes on the Pixma MG2522, it's essential to know what each code signifies and how to address them.

Error Code 5000

  • Description: This code indicates a printer error that may require professional assistance.
  • Action: It is advisable to contact a service center for further diagnosis and repair.

Error Code 1403

  • Action: Check the following:
    • Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed.
    • Verify that the print head is clean and free of obstructions.
    • Replace any empty or defective ink cartridges.

Troubleshooting Steps

To resolve these errors, follow these steps:

  1. For Error Code 5000:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
    • Wait for a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on.
    • If the error persists, contact a service center.

Is there a way to do a factory reset on the printer? I want to try this before chucking the printer into the bin... I have been using this printer and cartridge with no problems and this just suddenly happened. It seems like everything I'm doing is not working.

How to Perform a Factory Reset on Canon PIXMA MG2522

To reset your Canon PIXMA MG2522 printer to its factory settings, follow these steps:

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Power Off the Printer
Turn off your Canon PIXMA MG2522 by pressing the power button.
  2. Initiate the Reset Sequence

    • Hold down the Stop button.
    • While holding the Stop button, press the Power button.
  3. Complete the Reset

    • Keep holding the Power button and press the Stop button five times.
    • Release both buttons.

After completing these steps, your printer will reset to its factory defaults. This process can help resolve persistent issues or prepare the printer for a new setup.

This didn't work. Now I'm getting the 5200 code. What steps can I take to service the printer myself. I heard this could happen because the ink absorber pad is full.

It is still a cartridge or printhead problem error code.

How to Fix Error Code 5200

To resolve the Canon PIXMA MG2522 error code 5200, follow these steps:

Step-by-Step Solutions

  1. Check Ink Levels:
    • Navigate to the printer's settings to check the estimated ink levels.
    • Replace or refill any low or empty cartridges.
  2. Reinstall Ink Cartridges:

    • Open the printer cover and carefully remove the cartridges.
    • Ensure they are installed correctly and securely before closing the cover.
  3. Clean the Print Head:

    • Use the built-in cleaning tool found in the printer's maintenance settings.
    • If necessary, manually clean the print head by removing it and rinsing it in water, ensuring only the nozzles are submerged.
  4. Reset the Printer:

    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for a few minutes.
    • Plug it back in and turn it on to see if the error persists.

None of this is working. I can't access the cleaning tools or review the ink levels from my computer because it's throwing out this 5200 code. I've checked and cleaned the ink cartridges a couple of time.

Currently the Green power button light and Yellow alert light are flashing back and forth.

Common Fixes for MG2522 Flashing Lights:
  • Reinstall Ink Cartridges: Open the cover, remove both cartridges, and firmly reinsert them until they click, ensuring no protective tape remains.
  • Check Paper Jam: Look for jammed paper in the front exit or rear tray.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn the printer off, unplug it for 10 minutes, and plug it back in to clear errors.
  • Clean Contacts: Gently wipe the gold contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth.
Light Flash Codes:
  • 4 Flashes: The cartridge is not installed properly or is not compatible.
  • 5 Flashes: The cartridge cannot be recognized, or there is an issue with the print head.
  • 15/16 Flashes: The ink has run out or the cartridge is not recognized.
