Are they Canon cartridges? That is the first thing the support page asks.
The PIXMA G620 printer may not recognize cartridges due to issues like compatibility, dirty contacts, or protective tape not being removed. Try reseating the cartridges, cleaning the contacts, and ensuring the correct cartridges are installed.

Thanks for the reply. "Cleaning the contacts" did the job. Used a standard alcohol swab and found a very fine film of ink [overspray?]. Did not touch the print head! -Phil
