PIMXA TR8620 can print but can't scan

I recently purchased a Canon TR8620. I am able to print from my Mac but the scanning capability is not working. Is there special software required?

Yep! There is a quick start guide that instructs you to install the software. You can get it from https://ij.start.canon

I already downloaded the software but when it searches for the scanner, I receive an error message - cannot connect. The WiFi is working and the printing function works.
