Greetings,
Canon does not provide instructions for encoder strip replacement. Do you have a source for one?
They recommend cleaning as a first step.

If the encoder strip has fallen out of place, it sounds like the printer needs service. The encoder is the part of the printer that keeps track of the ink carriage. If the encoder was laying at the bottom of the ink area, it would mean the clip holding it in place is damaged.
