My MX870 has worked for years,  just recently stopped. Deleted the printer, and now won't reinstall.

I also downloaded the Canon updates so that it would be compatable with mac El Capitan.

1.  Are any error codes displaying on the printer itself?

2.  Did you receive an error when trying to reinstall the printer?

3.  Are you trying to connect the printer wirelessly or via USB cable?

4.  Are you able to make a photocopy directly from the printer successfully?
