MG6800 uses colored ink when selecting black/white

I am tired of spending money on so many cartridges of ink in order to print in black and white/grayscale. I make sure that I deselect print in color every time, my settings are set to black/white or grayscale depending on what app I use as I only print through my phone. I can’t print documents or labels out because of color ink. It’s such a waste of money and a scam for Canon to drain all colors for black ink, which there are TWO.

Does anyone know how to get around this printer using colored ink and not allowing me to print when pink runs low in order to print black text?
